Race started as "yellow flag."
4-5 miles in it became "red flag"
Don't remember when it became black flag. But it definitely was black flag long before the finish. It was pushing 90 degrees today.
Time was of no importance. My calf feels good.
And I did not die.
The medal kicks ass!

It was carnage out there...I came in around 1:45 and about 200 M from the finish there were paramedics surrounding a guy who had keeled over. As I finished the medics were taking him away on a flat bed vehicle and performing CPR...right then a woman let out a blood curdling scream and ran after the vehicle (I'm assuming a loved one of the man in distress). Was perhaps the most upsetting thing I've ever seen at a running event in my life.
ReplyDeleteFrom before even mile 1 I knew there was no way in hell I was going to PR...I just took it easy. Strangely, I found it to be better after the turn around as you were running more into the breeze.
Congrats on your finish!
I really love those medals! Congrats on the half in less than ideal conditions!

Great job on a very hot race!
ReplyDeleteVery kickass medal! Definitely finishing is the most important thing some races!!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteNice medal, great job on gutting it out. Glad to hear your calf didn't hurt. At 90 freakin degrees that would have been me in the ambulance. Ugh I did a half last year at 80 at thought I was going to die. SO way to go!!
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing medal! Congrats on finishing in this crazy heat!
ReplyDeleteHOORAY FOR YOUR HALF MARATHON!
ReplyDeleteSo happy your calf felt fine, that's so important.
Sorry about the horrendous conditions, seems like Chicago has these odd heat/weather issues, like during that marathon a couple years back.
Congrats!! It sounds like you ran a super smart race.
ReplyDelete"Black Flag" sounds way morbid. You Chicago girls have to contend with all sorts of temperatures!
